Research Analyst (Security)
The British Embassy in Jakarta is part of a world-wide network of 230 Diplomatic Posts, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. Indonesia and the United Kingdom have a strong relationship, and we work closely together to promote economic prosperity and international security. In order to strengthen our engagement further, we are looking to recruit a Security Sector Research Analyst.
The primary role of the Research Analyst (Security) will be to evaluate and analyse issues such as counter-terrorism and weapons proliferation. The position will also review the progress of reform of the Security Sector in Indonesia. There will also be instances when other transnational matters need to be analysed such as counter narcotics and efforts to tackle people smuggling amongst others.
The job-holder will work in the political team at the British Embassy as well as liaising with Foreign and Commonwealth Office colleagues at other Embassies in the region and those in London, reporting to the Second Secretary at the British Embassy in Jakarta.
This will be an exciting and challenging role in the Embassy, working closely with colleagues in the political, media and communications, defence and commercial teams, as well as the British Council.

Main duties
- Understand and report on the Indonesian government’s long and short-term policy approaches to the security sector environment.
- Analyse and report on the regional strategic security situation and any implications this may have for the UK.
- Maintain an excellent network of senior level contacts; across government, academia, politics, and civil society.
- Spot innovative opportunities to help deliver UK policy priorities and offer advice on handling any associated risks.
- Facilitate bilateral governmental visits and Embassy events.
- Develop strong working relations with all teams in the Embassy, including UK Trade and Investment, DFID and the British Council.
Requirements:
- Willing to start employment with a 1-year fixed term contract
- Degree-holder, preferably with a postgraduate degree, majoring in International Security, International Politics (or similar) discipline
- Preferably 3 years of relevant experience in security sector research, or have experienced a similar role in another Embassy or an international organisation
- Strong understanding of the Indonesian political and security scene
- An understanding of international relations and familiarity with the UK would be an advantage
- Excellent communication and networking skills
- Strong English and Indonesian language skills, both oral and written (i.e. IELTS 6.5 or higher).
- Self-motivated and the ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Proficient in MS Office applications

Administrative Assistant
Job Status : 1 year fixed-term contract
In order to strengthen our engagement in Indonesia, we are looking to recruit an Administrative Assistant who will be a member of the UK Climate Change Unit (UKCCU) and will assist the team in delivering the UK’s objectives and programmes around climate change.
Main duties

- Provide administrative and logistical support in organising events, meetings, travel arrangements and high level visits
- Provide HR support to UKCCU
- Manage UKCCU budget, process payments for admin budget, act as petty cash holder
- Provide administrative support to Head of UKCCU

Requirements
- An associate degree (D3) in administration or related field, with preferably 3 to 4 years’ experience in administrative management

- Ability to work with people of different levels and backgrounds

Vice Consul

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering effective Consular support to all British Nationals (residents and visitors) across Indonesia and East Timor. The position also has a key role in preparing for and responding to any crises might that affect British Nationals in Indonesia or East Timor.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering effective Consular support to all British Nationals (residents and visitors) across Indonesia and East Timor. Main Duties
- Support the Consul in managing the consular teams in Jakarta, Bali and the Honorary Consul in Dili. Provide guidance and support to them, including the network of Consular Wardens across the country
- Interpret and implement national assistance policies locally to ensure adherence to these guidelines and high customer service standards
- Handle high-profile and/or difficult cases, including prison and hospital visits and issuing urgent emergency travel documents
- Assist Consul to maintain (and test annually) the Post Emergency Plan, in readiness for any potential crisis
- Maintain and widen contacts with and outreach to local authorities, emergency services, the public and travel industry and wider stakeholders
- Liaise with the colleagues in London FCO, other Posts in SE Asia Pacific and the Regional Consular Director to deliver regional best-practice and consistency of support
Requirements
- Applicants must be willing to start the employment with a 1 year fixed term contract.
- At least 3 years of experience in managing staff, preferably in a customer service setting.
- Experience of a similar role in another Embassy, NGO or international organization would be an advantage
- Experience of budget management is advantageous
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong customer focus
- Flexible, resilient under pressure and decisive with a proven track record of delivering results to a high standard within tight deadlines
- Personal drive and the ability to be a self-starter as well as a team player
- Strong time management and prioritisation skills
- Ability to travel across Indonesia and occasionally internationally as needed
- Willingness to work additional hours as necessary, sometimes unsociable hours during a crisis.
- Strong English language skills, both written and spoken. Some knowledge of spoken Bahasa Indonesia is preferred
