Hoka Hoka Bento (sometimes abbreviated Hokben) is a Japanese fast food chain of restaurants based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Their chain of restaurants today spread across Java and Bali. The name Hoka Hoka Bento derived from Japanese language which means "various bento" (Japanese meal in a package).


Products
Hoka Hoka Bento serves various Japanese fastfood, however unlike the common ordering and serving in most fastfood restaurant, Hoka Hoka Bento serving arrangements was setted in long buffet similar to highschool cafeteria where customer moving along the heated stainless steel buffet ande choosing the dishes. 


Next to single a la carte menu, package set menu is also available. They offer Japanese-style fast food dishes such as Beef or Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Yakiniku, Sukiyaki, Chicken Egg Roll, Chicken Katsu, Gyoza, soups and deserts. Although defined itself as Japanese restaurant, most of the food served is already adapted to Indonesian taste; such as stronger taste (compared to authentic mild Japanese taste), addition of hot chilli pepper sambal to cater for Indonesian preference for hot and spicy food. As the result the Japanese food offered here is not authentic.


Hoka Hoka Bento also offered kids meal package called "Kidzu Bento" which also includes toys. They also offered children birthday party in their restaurant. Either logo and toys offered here is based on Hoka Hoka Bento characters.

History
Established in 18 April 1985 in Kebon Kacang, Jakarta, under PT. Eka Bogainti by Hendra Arifin. Hoka Hoka Bento is the largest “Japanese Fast Food” chain in Indonesia. Although it is Japanese fast food but the entire ownership and cook are Indonesian, there's no Japanese involvement in the business.
In April 2008, the firm had 98 outlets. As of April 2010, there were around 120 outlets, with expansion planned to other Indonesian cities in Central Java, Yogyakarta and Bali. Today Hoka Hoka Bento have 141 restaurant chains in Java and Bali.
